Point Comfort is about 35 miles from Dad’s RV Park. The drive takes US 87 to Port Lavaca and then crosses Lavaca Bay on SH 35. Formosa Plastics runs a complex of nearly 2,500 acres here with 20 production units, so plant and turnaround crews need places to stay year-round.

Lavaca Bay Fishing

Lavaca Bay is the largest arm of the Matagorda Bay system and averages about 4 feet deep. Anglers catch redfish, speckled trout, black drum, flounder, and sheepshead.

Port of Port Lavaca and Point Comfort

The Calhoun Port Authority runs terminals on both sides of the bay. Ships reach the port through the Matagorda Ship Channel, which is 36 feet deep.

The Old Causeway Fishing Pier

When the original Lavaca Bay causeway was replaced in the 1960s, the old bridge became a 3,200-foot state fishing pier. It was once billed as the longest in the world. The remains can still be seen from the new causeway.
